FAFSA

It is important that you fill out the FAFSA for many scholarships and student loans. These are some basic steps.

1. Your PIN ( if you're a dependent student, your parent should also apply for a PIN now so they can electronically sign your FAFSA ) is the key to online financial aid apply at www.pin.ed.gov
You can use your PIN to:
*Sign your FAFSA on the web electronically.
*Review and correct answers on your electronic Student Aid Report ( SAR )
*Print a copy of your SAR
*Reapply for student aid every year you are in school.
*View information about federal loans and grants.
Important PIN reminders:
*Remember your PIN-- Keep it somewhere you will be able to reference it for your next use.
*PINs do not expire.
*Parents can use their own PIN to electronically sign the FAFSA for their child who applies for student aid.

2. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov
* You will need your tax forms for the previous tax year
* Check deadlines for applying for state grant programs. Most school will have an early deadline of around March. So it is important to complete the FAFSA as early as possible after your income taxes have been completed.
